About Vani Topkar
Vani Topkar is a young and promising classical Kalekshetra Bharatanatyam dancer. She began learning from her guru Smt. Puja Allepalli in Thornton, Colorado in 2005 and completed her Arangetram in 2013. Her arangetram entailed her graduating as a novice bharatanatyam dancer in a 2 hour debut performance in which she danced along side live highly acclaimed artists from India. She is now performing as a professional dancer.
Vani is a passionate dancer who enjoys and excels in both the nritta and abhinaya aspects of bharatanatyam. She is also a unique dancer because of her interest in connecting with her heritage from Maharashtra, India through her dance. Most pieces are traditionally based on languages from Southern India, but Vani's love for Marathi songs has encouraged her to learn newly choreographed and innovative Marathi dances.
Vani has been blessed to have been able to learn from great bharatanatyam legends such as Padmshree. Shri. Adyar K. Lakshman and Smt. Bragha Bessell. These gurus have helped her flourish as a dancer and have increased her sense of rhythm and bhava.
Although she grew up in Colorado, USA, Vani has always been connected to her Indian culture. She has had opportunities to perform at many places and has received several awards.
